Listen to the episode

In this episode I'm joined by Carolyn Butler-Madden, author, speaker and founder of purpose consultancy The Cause Effect. She believes in a world where business is a force for good and brands drive profit through purpose, and her mission is to make social purpose a vital part of doing business in Australia and beyond.

Show notes

Carolyn helps business leaders define their purpose and build it strategically into their brand, creating meaningful social impact while driving competitive advantage through brand differentiation and employee engagement.

She brings 30 years of experience creating award-winning marketing campaigns for some of the world's best-known brands, and owned and ran two Sydney agencies over 18 years before moving into consulting. She's the author of Path To Purpose, which she describes as Australia's first book on the subject.

"We need to take some time to revisit our goals, our vision, our mission, and what it is we actually stand for."

In Carolyn's words

From #GSD to #DGS

"Lots of business owners talk about #GSD: Get Sh*t Done. I recently created something else. It's called #DGS: Do Good Sh*t! I'm on a mission to get people to understand this. We've been building a database of businesses with social purpose, doing good and doing great cause marketing."

Reimagining what business can be

"We actually need to take some time to revisit our goals, our vision, our mission, and what it is we actually stand for. I think a big part of that is reimagining what business can be."

Purpose only works if people can see it

Carolyn's point is that purpose is a genuine point of difference. But a difference nobody sees isn't an advantage. The businesses that benefit are the ones whose purpose is visible where their customers are looking.

If you know what you stand for and want the right people to find it, The Visibility Bootcamp™ is where that starts.
