The problem with paid-only growth

Renting your traffic is expensive

Most Shopify stores I audit look good, sell good products, and get almost all their traffic from ads and social. It works, right up until the budget pauses or the cost per click climbs again.

Organic search behaves differently. A collection page that ranks keeps bringing buyers in month after month, long after the campaign that would have cost you the same money has ended.

What's involved

E-commerce SEO, properly done

Every store is different, so every engagement starts with an audit. The work usually covers:

Technical audit

Duplicate product URLs, canonical tags, indexing, redirects and anything quietly stopping your products being found.

Collection pages

Usually your biggest ranking opportunity, and usually the most neglected. Titles, structure and content that helps people choose.

Buyer-intent keywords

Materials, colours, sizes, occasions and problems solved. The searches with intent behind them, not just volume.

Product pages

Descriptions that answer what buyers need before committing, rather than the manufacturer's copy every other store is using.

Product schema

Price, availability and ratings showing in search results, so your listing stands out against the ones that don't.

Speed and app audit

Every app adds code. Finding what's slowing your store down, on mobile in particular, where most of your shoppers are.

AI shopping readiness

People ask ChatGPT and Perplexity for recommendations now. Clear product data, consistent details and real reviews decide whether you're mentioned.

Reporting on revenue

Revenue by landing page, not just traffic. Which collections earn, and which deserve more attention.

Shopify specifics

Where Shopify stores lose visibility

Duplicate product URLs. Shopify can serve the same product at more than one address depending on how a shopper reached it. Without correct canonicals, your own pages compete.

Variants and filters. Colours, sizes and filtered views can generate endless thin pages. Most of them shouldn't be indexed at all.

Manufacturer descriptions. Identical copy across dozens of stores gives search engines no reason to choose yours.

App bloat. Apps accumulate. Each one adds scripts, and the ones you stopped using are still costing you load time.

Theme weight. Large hero images, carousels and video backgrounds look impressive and lose mobile shoppers before the page has finished loading.

Collection pages left bare. A grid of products with a one-line heading is the single most common missed opportunity in Shopify SEO.

Who this suits

Best fit for established stores

Two or three years trading

You know what sells. What you don't have is a steady stream of buyers arriving without paying for each one.

Reliant on paid traffic

Ads work, but the cost keeps climbing and nothing keeps working once you pause.

A real point of difference

Your products aren't the same as everyone else's, and your search results should say so.

Replatforming or redesigning

Moving to Shopify, or rebuilding your store? The time to protect your visibility is before launch.

How it works

Four steps, no mystery

1. Discovery call. A conversation about your store, your margins and where your traffic comes from today. No pitch.

2. Audit and plan. A full technical and content audit of your store, and a plan in priority order, in plain English.

3. The work. Technical fixes first, then collections, products and content, with you always knowing what's happening and why.

4. Reporting and review. Monthly reporting on what was done, what changed, and what's earning.

Shopify SEO questions, answered

Doesn't Shopify handle SEO automatically?

It handles some of the basics: clean URLs, sitemaps and mobile themes. It doesn't research your keywords, write your collection pages, or stop your variants competing with each other. That part is still a person's job.

Should I do SEO or ads?

Both, if you can. Ads buy immediate traffic and stop the moment the budget does. SEO takes longer and keeps working. Most healthy stores use ads to find what sells and SEO to compound it.

Do SEO apps do the job?

Some help with structured data or bulk edits. None replace a strategy, and too many apps slow your store down, which costs you rankings and conversions at the same time.

How long do product descriptions need to be?

Long enough to answer what a buyer needs to know, and no longer. Word count minimums are a myth that leads to padded pages nobody reads.

How long before I see results?

Technical fixes can show up within weeks. Collection and content work usually takes several months to build, and it keeps compounding after that.

I'm moving to Shopify from another platform. Can you help?

Yes, and the best time to involve me is before the migration. Replatforming without an SEO plan is one of the fastest ways to lose visibility you've spent years building.
